LIGHT SOCK by Diller Scofidio + Renfro
Diller Scofidio + Renfro is a New York City-based interdisciplinary design studio led by Elizabeth Diller, Ricardo Scofidio, and Charles Renfro. With a history of innovative work that goes back to 1979, which explores how space functions in our culture, theirs is a highly influential practice that has won many prestigious awards. Architectural projects include the renovation and expansion of New York’s Juilliard School, Boston’s Institute of Contemporary Art, and the Museum of Image & Sound on Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro. They have also completed installation and performance projects for the Venice Biennale and the Liverpool Biennial, plus a great many more.
Light Sock is a witty and chic subversion of the traditional chandelier’s classic branch and pendant form. It comprises a mesh bag filled with dazzling Swarovski crystals. A single light source is buried within the thousands of precision-cut crystals to intensify their natural prisms, which then throws out spectacular shards of light. Cleverly, the Light Sock also expands to take on the shape of its content. This eye-catching piece is ideal for making a statement in a luxury maritime environment, such as in a yachting club, at a yacht fair or event, or as the grand centerpiece of a super-yacht.
