Cascade by Vincent von Duysen

Belgian designer Vincent Van Duysen is celebrated for an aesthetic that is characterized by a mix of simplicity, sensuality, and a preference for primary forms and compact volumes. Slipping effortlessly between architecture and interiors, among his earthy colors, raw woods and linens you’ll spot the DNA of the Flemish painting masters. He studied at the Architecture Institute Saint-Lucas in Ghent, founding his studio in Antwerp in 1990. Since then his sophisticated yet understated style has earned him a devoted following that includes the likes of Hollywood screen star Julianne Moore.

While Cascade is an unashamedly opulent chandelier, boasting cascading chains of shimmering Swarovski crystals intermingled with strands of white LEDs, its form has been elegantly contained as a monumental column by a typically restrained hand. Essentially, it echoes a powerful waterfall crashing into a mountain pool. Van Duysen’s idea was that it should be like a grand palace chandelier, but instead of hanging over the banqueting hall, it would drop—spectacularly—right into the middle of the banqueting table!
