Sustainability in Business
In April 2016, Cirque du Soleil and Swarovski partnered up to debut a “sustainable fashion challenge”, with the aim of promoting sustainability in business.
Fashion Business students at Montreal’s École supérieure de mode (ESM), part of ESG UQAM, worked in teams to re-imagine crystal-embellished costumes that have previously appeared in some of Cirque du Soleil’s most famous shows, and transform them into new magical objects using crystals.
To assist them, Cirque du Soleil and Swarovski laid on sustainability and product lectures.
The judging panel comprised representatives from Cirque du Soleil, Swarovski and ESM, and it was so impressed by the effort and innovation in display that it decided on two joint winners:
- The KALÉI team created a crystal kaleidoscope with a bag made of costume scraps to carry it in, recalling memories of early childhood.
- The BAR VIP team made a coaster with crystals on one side and recipes for various cocktails on the other, matched with characters from Cirque du Soleil shows.
